Engineering Field Services

EMPMI offers experienced field engineering and measurement services including, geodetic surveys, hydrological services and acoustical measurements. The company employs a staff of highly trained and experienced specialists as well as all of the requisite tools, instruments and measuring equipment.

Successful engineering projects require attention to detail at every step from initial concept to operations. Field services such as site surveying, geological and hydrological assessments determine key design elements that must be identified, measured and recorded accurately and thoroughly. Only when this data from the field is properly gathered and communicated can the planning, design, and modelling work begin. Having a single entity handle both the field work and engineering helps to ensure that the information is interpreted correctly and efficiently. Once a project’s initial steps are completed and the project is fully underway, coordination between a field team and the rest of the project team is maintained at this same high level of communication, to secure the project’s success.

Fire Safety Engineering

EMPMI provides fire safety consulting to architects, contractors and real estate companies and conducts fire-safety evaluations of buildings, ensuring code compliance with all current laws and regulations along with performance-based design.

There are many facets to consider in fire safety design. Examples include, flammability characteristics of building materials, sectioning of buildings into fire and smoke zones, escape routes, structural heat tolerances, predicting fire spread, fire warning systems and fire extinguishing equipment.

Our fire safety engineers provide evaluations for building and planning, as well as in connection with industry, industrial processes and transportation, applying their experience and expertise to diverse and challenging projects.

Geotechnical Engineering

Geotechnical design is an important element in the preliminary stage of all structures and EMPMI’s specialists have vast experience in this field. The most extensive projects are related to power plant projects, steel pilings in harbour construction, dam design, infrastructure and power intensive industries.

EMPMI’s consultants have extensive experience in geotechnical design and the supervision of such structures. Foundation bearing capacity is evaluated, stability calculated, settlement predictions and liquefaction potential during earthquakes assessed. In larger projects, it is often necessary to perform comprehensive and specialized geotechnical investigations on soil and bedrock material properties.

Research is conducted on minerals intended for use, and on foundations for structures. Where rock is at depth, SPT and/or CPT-holes are drilled to determine soil characteristics. In addition, undisturbed samples are taken to evaluate shear strength and settlement properties.

Engineering & Construction Procurement Services

The main objective of EMPMI’s procurement process is to maximize the value of investments on behalf of the owner. Procurement is made according to a process that ensures safe delivery of goods and services at the right price, at the right time and at the right quality. In order for this to go as planned, procurement must be considered during the early stages of projects by setting up a procurement plan (procurement strategy) and by selecting the tender form for individual items of the project from the start.

At the tender stage of projects, EMPMI’s procurement consultants prepare the tender documents, oversee the tendering process and opening of bids. The most qualified contractors/suppliers/OEMs are selected and contracts made. At execution phase, contracts are administrated by procurement consultants at EMPMI, which means monitoring the work rate and payments, and making sure it is in compliance with contracts. In addition, all change management of contracts goes through the procurement team in a structured way. At project completion the final settlement is made with the contractor on behalf of the buyer.
